Surviving Gender-Based Violence

Lauren Anderson, Wednesday June 27, 2018

A good number of girls currently brought to Confident Children out of Conflict (CCC) are survivors of gender-based violence (GBV). They have suffered from extreme trauma and do not have sustainable livelihood skills. Impact South Sudan, in partnership with CCC, aims to train them with some skills so they are able to support themselves once they return home or relocate. When funds are scarce, we simply work to find safe homes for them.

Two of these young women are Haba and Maam. They were brought up in the market area of Konyokonyo in Juba, where their mother was a sex worker. The girls were vulnerable and exploited. Unfortunately, their mother disappeared and was eventually found dead. CCC stepped in to help the children close this chapter in their lives. A South Sudanese family has adopted both children; they are currently in school in Uganda and are happy.

Thank you for your support of Impact South Sudan and CCC. Because of you, Haba and Maam have a brighter future. You are changing lives!
