Poverty Issues

Ecuador, straddling South America's Andean region, boasts diverse ecosystems and indigenous cultures. Despite its natural beauty, communities confront issues like unequal access to education and healthcare. Around 33% of the population experiences poverty, necessitating targeted initiatives for social and economic inclusion.

How We Help

Our partners in Ecuador, Carmen Bajo Church, engage in transformative initiatives aimed at uplifting communities through a multifaceted approach that encompasses crucial areas such as food assistance, education, vocational opportunities, and spiritual development. At the heart of these endeavours lies a profound commitment to fostering sustainable growth and empowering individuals to break free from poverty.

One of the impactful programs spearheaded by our partners is the Quito Kids Meals and Tutoring Program. This initiative addresses the immediate need for nourishing meals and provides essential learning support to hundreds of children. This project promotes a sense of belonging and fosters growth among youth in Ecuador.

Currently, there are 15 dedicated scholarship students who, through your support, can pursue higher education which opens doors to a brighter future. These scholarships play a pivotal role in breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for talented individuals who otherwise face financial constraints.

Furthermore, their commitment to community engagement is evident through various outreach events. These events not only bring the community together but also serve as platforms for fostering positive interactions, sharing resources, and building a collective sense of empowerment. Through these outreach events, they aim to strengthen the fabric of neighbourhoods in Ecuador, promoting unity and resilience.

It is important to note that their mission extends beyond national borders. In collaboration with other iTeams Canada partners, we have established an exchange program that allows Ecuadorian youth to volunteer in Guatemala. This cross-cultural initiative not only promotes international cooperation but also provides a unique opportunity for young individuals to broaden their horizons, gain valuable experiences, and contribute to the well-being of communities in Guatemala.

Together, we strive to combat poverty, create lasting positive change, and bring hope and transformation within the communities we serve. Your contributions directly fuel our shared mission, making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.

Impact Story

In 2021, 7-year-old Rodolfo and his parents fell ill with Covid-19. This led to Rodolfo's hospitalization, the family turned to their church community for support. The congregation responded with prayers, emotional encouragement, and crucial food deliveries, fostering a sense of unity.

The church's unwavering love profoundly impacted Rodolfo's mom, sparking her interest in delving deeper into the teachings of Jesus. Despite the initial turmoil caused by the virus, the steadfast support from the Carmen Bajo church community played a pivotal role in helping the family rebuild. As Rodolfo successfully recovered and returned home, the experience initiated a transformative journey for the family, now anchored in strengthened faith and deeper community bonds.

The story of Rodolfo and his family is not just a testament to the extraordinary power of community support but also highlights how the compassion and kindness from their neighbors in Carmen Bajo have played a pivotal role in transforming their lives. The resilient spirit and newfound faith nurtured within this close-knit neighborhood continue to guide Rodolfo and his family toward a future filled with hope, unity, and the lasting impact of community solidarity.
